Attractive to children (bright colours, lots of images) Limited text, very simple language (to be understood by children who have limited use of English).
LearnEnglish Kids is a website aimed at young learners (aged 7-12) who are studying English language, outside of the UK. The site has tons of resources: games, songs, stories, stuff to print out (worksheets, some crafts, flashcards), creative writing activities, all based around topics that children will enjoy. The site is updated with new materials every month, and features a new topic each month (for example, ‘superheroes, ‘dinosaurs’). However, the more normal subjects tend to be most popular e.g. clothes and numbers (possibly because adults are using it for supporting children’s leaning?). There are also regular competitions, and some activities where users can contribute (e.g. book review).
The site is very popular – especially the games pages. Songs are changed once a month. Stories are the next most popular sections.
The newsletter has about 6,000 respondents and is published once a month.
